Highlights from the Exposome-NL Conference 2022
The first Exposome-NL conference, titled ‘Exposome and Preventive Health: tackling complexity’, took place on Friday 20 May 2022 in Utrecht. With almost 200 participants, several outstanding talks by international exposome researchers, a poster session and a broad set of break-out sessions, we look back on a vibrant and inspiring day.
Second Edition EHEN Newsletter
In the second issue of the European Human Exposome Network (EHEN) newsletter, we look at how the researchers from the nine EHEN projects are applying “external exposome” data to biological research fields such as metabolomics, epigenomics and transcriptomics, also known as the “internal exposome”.
Meet the Professor 2022
On Wednesday March 23, more than 100 professors visited elementary schools in Utrecht. As is tradition, they all got on their bicycles in togas. This year, professor of epidemiology Roel Vermeulen had equipped all bicycles with a sniffer sensor that could measure the air quality on the route to the schools.
30 March 2022 – Researching the Roots of Obesity and the Impact Across the Life-course
The LongITools project is studying the interactions between the environment, lifestyle, and health in determining people’s risks of developing metabolic diseases such as obesity. This forum will include short presentations covering the challenges of obesity and the research being undertaken.
19-22 April 2022 – Molecular Epidemiology of Chronic Disease and the Exposome
In 2022 Utrecht University, in collaboration with Imperial College London, will organise the Exposome short course series. The series is divided into three levels: exposome basis (April 2022, Utrecht), exposome advanced (June/July 2022, London) and exposome practice (tba).
20 May 2022 – Exposome-NL Conference 2022
The first Exposome-NL conference is coming up! Join us and get inspired by some great speakers who share the latest insights and future perspectives in the field of exposome research. Interact in one of the many break-out sessions and present your own research at the poster session.
Lifestyle Epidemiology Course
If you work in academia, governmental institutions or industry and want to learn all about the epidemiology of lifestyle behaviours influencing obesity and non-communicable diseases, you can now sign up for the Epidm – Lifestyle Epidemiology course. In this three day course you will acquire up-to-date knowledge and skills on the measurement and analysis of dietary behaviour, sleep, physical activity and sedentary behaviour, and their relations with health outcomes.
2 November 2021 – Exposome MOOC
On 2 November 2021 Utrecht University and the Dutch consortium Exposome-NL will start again with the Massive Online Open Course (MOOC) “The Exposome – cracking the science about what makes us sick.”
Strong reasons for the new WHO air quality guidelines
In celebration of EU Green Week, Google Project Air View, in collaboration with the City of Copenhagen, Utrecht University and Aarhus University, shares a new air quality map for Copenhagen, which citizens can also study. The new measurements of air pollution show that the pollution with the so-called ultrafine particles is worst on streets with a lot of car traffic.
